The Way to Write a Check

Best Check Ever

From the very funny and highly recommended FAIL blog

Update:  Apparently there is an intersting back story (via Boing Boing).  Verizon quoted him .002 cents per kilobyte of data used but then billed him .002 dollars.  Then they insisted that .002 cents is equal to .002 dollars.   Apparently Verizon did not take chemistry from my chem 101 prof who would take off full points if we ever messed up our units of measure.

Spam
23 July 2008, tem @ 6:34 pm

I’m sure everyone else is getting plenty of their own spam but I thought I’d share some of what seems like a fun new trend.  I’ve finally managed to get my filters to effectively block all the naughty picture, get rich and enhancement emails.  So now all of the spams that make it through have subjects that are what I think are meant to be outrageous attention grabbing headlines.  Its kinda like reading the Onion.  Some of my favorites:

  • Hillary Receives 3 A.M. Phone Call From Drunken Bill Clinton
  • Barack Obama Wins Ku Klux Klan Endorsement
  • Barenaked Ladies with cocaine overdose
  • Boy pokes fork into sister’s eye
  • Obama trouser fly slip
  • Osama sighting confirmed in NYV
  • Iowa man says he plannedd to compost pot, not smooke
  • Horse gets swallowed by snake
  • Horse kicks Ralph Lauren in stomach
  • Woman loses nose after dog attack

So I wonder,   is there some spammer sitting in a dark room thinking up fake headlines?   Based on my unofficial polling of spam subjects,  Obama is leading McCain by 100%.

Catch Up on Links

So….   We moved again.  It seriously cut into my internet surfing time.   So here is my backlog of randomness from the past couple of months:

CGI Lady – Not exactly sure how they pulled it off but it appears to be flash based.  Maybe its time I learn me some flash again.

Decaying Theme Parks - My recent obsession with abondoned places continues.  The story behind Dog Patch USA was fascinating but a time consuming read.   Flickr pools are much more manageable.

Free Range Kids – Blog by

Lenore Skenazy who wrote the article about leaving her 9 year old in downtown NYC to figure out his way home on the subway.  Eden is 9 now. And I think she could probably do it.  But it still scares the crap out of me to not have the kids in view.  Which is completely irrational on my part given the amount of free range roaming I did when I was 9.  I did send Eden across Target the other day to go switch out a shirt for one with a price tag.  I had my eye on the doors the entire time and I couldn’t help thinking that she was lost the entire time.  But she managed to find the shirt and make it back to the register in one piece.  Not sure if the experience was more educational for her or me.

Okay,  time to go sort some more boxes out.  If you don’t have our new address, call us.  Our phone number is still the same.  Not sure how reliable the mail forwarding is.
